Token has introduced the TokenCore Card, a biometric smart card designed to secure enterprise logins and sensitive actions performed by AI agents. Presented at Authenticate U.S. 2026, the card combines fingerprint verification, FIDO2 passwordless authentication, Bluetooth, and NFC in a familiar employee badge format. For eeNews Europe readers, the TokenCore Card highlights the growing role of hardware-based authentication in enterprise cybersecurity. Its approach could be particularly relevant to organizations deploying AI agents that need human authorization before carrying out sensitive operations. TokenCore Card Combines Biometrics and FIDO2 The TokenCore Card is designed to address a common weakness in authentication systems: proving that a credential is present does not necessarily prove who is using it. According to Token, the card requires the enrolled user’s fingerprint before authentication can proceed. Biometric information remains on the device, while a cryptographic signature is used to verify identity. The card supports FIDO2 passwordless authentication and integrates with existing identity and access management (IAM), single sign-on (SSO), and privileged access management (PAM) infrastructure. Token claims that initial setup takes less than five minutes and passwordless login can be completed in under two seconds. The card supports Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, using Bluetooth and NFC for wireless connectivity. “People have carried a card to work for decades. TokenCore Card makes that card prove who is holding it,” said Kevin Surace, CEO of Token. “Identity is now the control point for every login, every privileged session, and increasingly every action an AI agent takes. That control point can’t rest on a code someone can be talked out of. Whether an action begins with a person or an AI agent, the ones that matter should end with a verified human.” Human Approval for Critical AI Agent Actions Beyond employee authentication, the TokenCore Card extends Token’s AI agent approval technology, introduced in June. When an AI agent attempts a sensitive operation, such as authorizing a wire transfer or modifying access permissions, the workflow can pause until an authorized employee confirms the action using their fingerprint. This adds a physical verification step to automated processes that might otherwise rely entirely on stored credentials or software-based authorization. Token says the system integrates with AI agent gateways alongside existing enterprise security platforms, allowing organizations to introduce biometric approval without replacing their current authentication infrastructure. Strengthening Enterprise Identity Security The launch reflects growing concerns about phishing, stolen credentials, and unauthorized access as businesses introduce more autonomous AI systems. By combining on-device biometric verification with established FIDO2 standards, Token aims to provide a consistent authentication method for both conventional employee access and AI-driven workflows. The TokenCore Card was presented at Authenticate U.S. 2026. Further product information is available at Token’s website .
